What Does It All Mean?
Without these plastids, it would be virtually impossible for complex multicellular organisms to thrive the way in which they historically have. Green plants now cover the majority of the Earth’s surface and seas. The evolution of complex land plants was mainly due to the abundance of available sunlight with limited competition. Growth was an exponential possibility due to the conditions of these first land masses. It is important to note that these complex land plants gave way to complex land mammals. Without the Evolution of plastids, and chloroplast specifically, it can be said that life on Earth would be very different from the plethora of life that exists today.
